Rocktown Beer Calorie Alert!

With the Rocktown Beer and Music Festival only a day away here are some tips on how to choose your beer tastings accordingly. There will be many local brewers, specializing in lagers, hefeweizens, ambers, pale ales and other beers that are not Natural Light. Hefeweizens and wheat beers will usually be less than 160 calories per 10 ounces. The alcohol by volume (ABV) averages five percent. These types of beers include Purple Haze, Widmer Hefeweizen and Blue Moon. The calories to alcohol ratio for wheat beers are conducive to getting a buzz for a reasonable caloric intake. Ciders are in the same range, so those are also good choices.
Ambers can range in calories because there are many light versions. Ambers have a lower ABV and calories are in the high hundreds. Buzz to calorie ratio, ambers are not the optimal choice. If you are an amateur beer drinker, make sure to at try one of everything. It is not very often that a festival brings so many amazing brewers together. Have fun drinking your money’s worth, but keep in mind how many calories are in each frosty beverage.
